This weekend, Metrecubic participated in the SGRAIL 100 Triathlon, a big international competition. This tradition originated in Cadaqués and the finish line was in Girona, thus transporting more than 300 bicycles on our lorries.
The participants were of all different nationalities coming from all over Europe.
Did you know about the SGRAIL 100 Triathlon?
If you didn’t know about the SGRAIL 100 Triathlon, you must know that it is a sporting event consisting of three stages:
- 1.5 km swimming
- 88 km of Gravel
- 10.5 km of Trail.
During the event, participants have to transport the bicycles from Girona to Cadaqués safely, therefore Klassmark calls on us every year to transport the more than 300 bicycles of the competitors in the safest way possible.
It is also possible for each participant to transport their bicycle on their own, but it is not recommended, due to the large influx of people in Cadaqués and the limited parking space.
The SGRAIL 100 Triathlon begins
Once the event starts, the first stage comes and, after 1.5 km of swimming, you have to take your bike and do 88 km. For this reason, the vehicle stays in Cadaqués, which if you were accompanied would not be a problem, but if this is not the case, your bike would stay there to be picked up another day, and that is not very convenient.
It is also true that Klassmark already includes the transportation of the bike in the registration price. So that, not taking advantage of it would also be foolish.
Do you know how they are transported?
Firstly, the bicycles are structured by bib numbers, so they can be classified in order and have control of the bib numbers. Thus, they can be unloaded in the same order and can be put in their exact place.
Because they are delicate bicycles, they must be transported with flexible material, but it does not have to be hard, since we must be able to interlock them to have a greater capacity inside the van, or truck, so that the maximum number of bicycles possible can fit. That is why they are protected with cardboard and blankets in between each bike so that they do not touch each other. Consequently, it ensures that they are not damaged and arrive in perfect condition at their destination.
What is the capacity of each vehicle?
The capacity depends a little on the vehicle that is used, but as a guideline, we would be saying that a van measuring 14 m3 can hold about 27 bikes and a 40 m3 truck about 90.
